Key Maintenance Tips for Summer
Maintain the Cooling Package: This is your first line of defense. Use compressed air to clean the radiator, oil cooler, and air conditioning condenser fins daily. Debris, dust, and dry vegetation can trap heat, causing the system to lose efficiency.
Inspect Coolant Levels: Regularly verify that your coolant is at the manufacturer-recommended level and correctly mixed. Also, ensure the radiator cap is in good condition; a failing cap cannot maintain the necessary pressure, which lowers the coolant's boiling point.
Check Fan Belts: A loose or worn fan belt can slip, reducing fan speed and cooling effectiveness. Inspect your belt for any signs of cracking or fraying and ensure it has the correct tension.
Monitor Hydraulic Temperatures: Hydraulic oil thins in high heat, which can lead to pump stress. If your temperature gauge climbs, allow the machine to idle for several minutes before shutting it down; this helps dissipate heat gradually.
